Pre-Show Antics outside Vnuk's 09-09-00
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised.
If you are at work or you are easily offended by profanity, ethnic humor aimed at Jeff and/or drunken behavior; this clip is not recommended for you. That being said...this was one of our first shows outside the friendly confines of Racine, WI and we were just beginning to “live the dream”. It all started when Dave Vnuk heard about us through the grapevine and called me up. He offered to pay us in booze and in my drunken stupor I said “YES!” I'm such a sellout. Luckily for us, Vnuk's was a great place to play and coming up in the local music scene just like us. We had some great times at Vnuk's and I'm glad my soon to be father in-law stole my soon to be wife's brand new camcorder so we could film this set. This is one of the few shows we have on tape, so THANKS TIMMY! Sorry Wee. Also...sorry about the lawn ornaments Holmes...I hope you tossed them in the expansion. This one goes out to Minnie!
“Slut” Live at Vnuk's 09-09-00
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised.
Here we are at Vnuk's playing the first song we ever wrote. Eric and I were looking for a drummer and a bass player and Chris Miller saw one of our flyers. He called me up to try out, and like a dick, I said only if he could produce Andy Spaulding to play drums. Within the hour Chris called me back to set up a jam session. Eric and I thought it was going to be a total waste of time, but we wrote this song within the first 20 minutes. It was something different than any of us had ever written and it was like nothing on the scene at that time. This clip shows us performing "Slut" for some of our earliest and most loyal fans. To this date I can't thank our fans enough for their support throughout the years. Take a look back at us and our fans 10 years ago. Where were you Saturday September 9th 2000? VNUKS?!! We were.
“Pretend” Live at Vnuk's 09-09-09
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. Here we are again at Vnuk's playing the second song we ever wrote. After this one, the rest of the writing order gets a little hazy...whatever happened, happened...and the rest is history. This song was straight up about the woman I loved breaking my heart; hence the chorus. We used to thrash on this one and many a stage and studio took a beating. This clip is also a shout out to our fans, as the camera makes its way around the stage and the crowd. Thanks again for coming out and showing your support so early on.
“I Feel” Live at Vnuk's 09-23-00
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. Here we are, a few weeks later throwing down at Vnuk's again. Dave Vnuk was one of the coolest guys and he really took care of us early on. This one is pretty cut and dry. Ladies and Gentlemen...”I Feel”.
“Decepticon” Live at Vnuk's 09-23-00
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. Still at Vnuk's; still doing our thing. This show was special for us though, because it was our first back to back show weekend. This show was a straight-up bitch, because we were all super hung over from the night before. In the end though, we managed to sober up and/or re-intoxicate ourselves long enough to play the set. Too bad I cussed so much that Chris has to call me out on it...in front of his mom! My apologies to the Millers...especially Mrs. Miller.
“HBD, Swampass and MC Hammer???” Live at Vnuk's 09-23-00
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. Here we are, mid set at Vnuk's; when Eric shouts out a big HBD to Andy Spaulding. This is Andy's first Birthday as a member of Unbecoming You and since no good deed goes unpunished, I have to call attention to his “Swampass”. I ain't spankin' that! I will however make an ass of myself trying to lay it down like a 90's hip-hop icon. This bit would break out at our shows from time to time and we got pretty good at it. This however, appears to be the first time it happened. All I can say is “Can't touch this!”
“Refrain” Live at Thai Joe's 10-17-00
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. This show cost me two years of my life and sparked my life long addiction to spicy-hot food. Thanx Thai Joe's for paying us in atomically hot Thai food and for having your club on the East Side of Milwaukee! Damn yous! Anyway...big thanks again to Timmy for stealing Wee's camcorder and to Jerry Tanner for filming the set. Here we are busting out Refrain in front of a few friends and a couple new fans on a Tuesday night. Seriously, who puts on a local rock show on a Tuesday night? Foreigners, that's who. Also...who comes out to heckle a local band on a Tuesday night? I don't know...but two can play at that game.
“4 Months” Live at Thai Joe's 10-17-00
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. This was an early song at an early show and it was always one of my favorites. I don't know what we are doing at this show or why; but its driving me crazy that Eric & Chris are on the wrong sides of the stage. I really don't know what to do about it...perhaps that's why I vanish off camera for a little bit in this clip. Also, can't some one shut that heckler up? Eric, isn't there something you could do to help a brother out? Seriously...what does it take to silence this chick?
“Melmac” Live at RD's Retreat sometime in 2001
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. I don't know when this show was, who we played with or who filmed it. All I can gather from the tape is that this is before we recorded Defcon 5, because we do not sound tight on these takes and that's probably because they are still new. After we recorded DC5, we sounded like the album, so that puts this show somewhere around spring 2001. I'm guessing its one of the first warm days of the year as Eric is wearing his “prescription” shorts and I am not.
“South” Live at RD's Retreat sometime in 2001
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. Same thing here as with Melmac...this song sounds like we were still tweaking it. It's not quite the album version, but it's different from the 10-17-00 show. I can't remember who filmed this for us either. I know it was someone who knew one of us from school. There is a mock interview on this tape too; but it needs some serious help with the edits. If you filmed this show for us, please let me know so I can send a shout out. Also, if you still have any of this footage; please contact me.
“Cache” Live at Summerfest on the Rock Stage 07-03-03
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. This was the start of something big. We showed up as just another local band and walked out Rock Stars. There was hardly anybody in the stands when we took the stage, but mid way through our intro; they were packing in. Not only were we opening for three of the hottest bands on Summerfest's bill that summer, but we fuckin' rocked it. We sold all our merch, passed out all or stickers and we damn near filled our 3-ring e-mail binder. This show catapulted us to a new level and we coasted on it until we eventually parted ways towards the end of 2004. I had dreamed about this show since I first picked up a guitar and it was worth the wait.
“Closure” Live at Summerfest on the Rock Stage 07-03-03
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. Ma-ma-ma-my Ca-low-jha! Trust me...it'll make sense in a minute. I totally forgot we did this, so it was great to see this clip again. What more can I say other than this was always one of our most popular songs. It was very received well, wherever we were. You have to love the virtual tour you get from our camera woman on this one. The lay of the land really takes me back. Almost feels like I'm at Summerfest. By the way, if you filmed this; please send me a friend request so I can give you a proper shout out. I know you are one of Cam 's friends and I know your face...I just can't remember your name. Li'l help? ...I think I damaged too many brain cells...
“With or Without You” Live at Summerfest on the Rock Stage 07-03-03
As with any UNU clip, viewer discretion is advised. This is towards the end of our set at Summerfest and it wasn't very good...but I had to post it. We never ever played covers, but I really wanted to play something at this show that everyone would know; so they might help me sing the chorus. Singing along with the band is the best part of a concert as far as I am concerned and I always wanted to experience that from the Band's POV. Sure, our diehard fans used to get up close and sing along with me at shows, but this was on such a grand scale; it was the perfect platform to experience the sing-along from the other side. The plan worked and the crowd really came through for us. You can totally hear them over all the equipment on the stage. It was Awesome...and just in time too, because my voice was totally shot! I think I had heat stroke from bringing it so hard in that extreme heat with nothing but beer in my system. I'm actually kind of embarrassed about how much I sucked on this one, but I wanted to showcase how awesome my band played it. Seriously, watch the drums...Andy rips it up the entire time. And although I can't sing a lick, my band and our crowd made this one of the highest points of the show for me. I'd like to extend a big thanks to everyone that was in the stands that day...you really made our dreams come true.
